Aldeburgh Golf Club – Suffolk

Sensitive and stylish architectural updates breathe new life into a local landmark

Situated in a prominent location on the approach to the picturesque Suffolk coastal town, Aldeburgh Golf Club sought out Louis de Soissons’ to deliver a sensitive but stylish update to the clubhouse.
The outdated 1930’s structure with its formal and traditional layout required updating to create a lighter, brighter building, to encourage greater use of the club’s social facilities and exploit the fabulous views across the course and nearby coastline

Designed to complement the original building, Louis de Soissons created a new matching 1930’s style extension but with a wall of sliding glazing opening on to a new terrace has created a more contemporary, attractive dining room, enhanced by a refurbishment of the lounge, bar and kitchen.

This has created a more informal, yet stylish, setting for current members and is successfully attracting the next generation of new members to the Club.

Their aim of attracting a new and younger membership has been achieved as a result of the club’s more contemporary and open design.
