King Street – Watford, Hertfordshire
Prominent town centre development with Art Deco Styling
Development of a prominent town centre site to create six A3/retail units all successfully let to well known high street destination restaurants with outside eating areas, creating a destination dining venue along with 24 private flats above.
The developers had previously sought to demolish all the buildings on the site but the planners preferred the more sensitive design approach of retaining these as part of the scheme.
The project therefore incorporates the town’s original Victorian police station and a prominent 1930’s bank building, linking these with contemporary infill blocks designed to subtly reflect the distinctive Art Deco style of the High Street.

Key to creating a scheme on this site that maximised value for our client was to develop our good working relationships with the local authority planning and conservation team. The resulting scheme is designed sympathetically within the heritage of the context, whilst minimising construction costs working with existing structures.
